Porous Seamless Tubes
For porous sintered metal components requiring a large amount of surface area and length to diameter ratios greater than 3:1, porous seamless tubes are the best option to achieve the optimum pore size and density uniformity. Porous Seamless Tubes are manufactured by Cold Isostatic Pressing utilizing specially designed tooling.
Porous Seamless Tubes can be manufactured with outside diameters ranging from 0.25” (6.35 mm) to 3” (50.8 mm) with lengths up to 24” (635mm) long in one section. Porous tubes with longer lengths can be created by butt welding sections together. Seamless Porous Tubes normally have wall thickness ranging from 0.065” to 0.125” (1.5mm to 3mm) to obtain the optimal balance of mechanical strength and permeability.
Common Sizes (Specify Outside Diameter, Inside Diameter and Length):
| Tube OD (Inches) | Tube OD (mm) | Tube ID (Inches) | Tube ID (mm) | Maximum Length (Inches) | Maximum Length mm |
| 0.250 | 6.35 | 0.125 | 3.18 | 6 | 150 |
| 0.375 | 9.52 | 0.25 | 6.35 | 12 | 300 |
| 0.500 | 12.70 | 0.375 | 9.52 | 24 | 610 |
| 0.625 | 15.88 | 0.5 | 12.7 | 24 | 610 |
| 0.750 | 19.05 | 0.625 | 15.88 | 24 | 610 |
| 1.000 | 25.40 | 0.75 | 19.05 | 24 | 610 |
| 1.250 | 31.75 | 1.00 | 25.40 | 24 | 610 |
| 1.500 | 38.10 | 1.25 | 31.75 | 24 | 610 |
| 2.000 | 50.80 | 1.75 | 44.45 | 24 | 610 |
| 2.250 | 57.15 | 2 | 50.80 | 24 | 610 |
| 2.500 | 63.50 | 2.25 | 57.15 | 24 | 610 |
| 3.000 | 76.20 | 2.75 | 69.85 | 24 | 610 |
Longer lengths can be created by welding pieces together.
Tube Assemblies:
Attaching the porous tube to hardware is readily accomplished using a variety of joining techniques such as welding, mechanical press fitting, epoxy gluing and sinter bonding. More detailed information about these assembly techniques is discussed in the discussing secondary operations section under the Engineering Information heading.
